With the revaluation rate applied for 2026, administrative traffic fines have increased significantly. The fine for running a red light rises progressively with repeated violations; fines for driving under the influence of alcohol likewise increase progressively for a first, second and third detection. Using a non-standard or deliberately illegible license plate is subject to a separate, aggravated administrative fine.
In addition, the maximum premiums for compulsory traffic insurance were updated as of 1 September; the increase is 1.75% for private cars and 3.75% for commercial vehicle categories such as taxis, minibuses and buses.
A traffic fine may be challenged before the criminal court of peace within the statutory period from the date of notification. In the objection proceedings, it is important whether the detection underlying the fine was carried out in accordance with the proper procedure.
